Purple Iris Cowl

Finally some knitting in 2010.

Here's my contribution to the Cowls group January KAL over on Ravelry (For the benefit of my ignorant non-knitting friends, that's a Knit-A-Long, where people sign up to knit a selected item and then show off compare results. I've never joined one before, but this was just too tempting.

Not one, but two cowls.

These are Christmas gift knits. Yes I KNOW it's almost Febuary.

And your point is?

These were knit from almost a single skein of Shepherd Sock Multi in the Purple Iris colourway.

(Don't I just come up with the greatest blog post titles, eh?)

Abstract Leaves Cowl Reveal

Finally some pictures of this great cowl. Abstract Leaves Cowl in Shepherd Sock Red Rover. (Yes, I know it’s usual to have a human model, but hey, we gotta use what’s at hand.)

Notice the lovely stitch definition and the exquisite shaping in the 2nd pic achieved by changing down to smaller needles. I'm very impressed with the effectiveness of that technique.

Added to that the subtle colour changes in the Shepherd Sock and the softness of the yarn and you have a cowl that people keep trying to steal from you.

Seriously. They ask to try it on and then they try to leave the house.

Be vigilant.

Abstract Leaves Cowl

Some time ago, I offered to test knit a cowl for a designer I met on Ravelry. The lovely Abstract Leaves Cowl.

It took a while to get started given the green swamp I was in for a while, but I was delighted to get started on it last week.

I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd's Sock Red Rover which I purchased from here. I couldn't resist some other colours while I was at it (had to justify the postage of course) which is one reason that the credit card is taking a little rest* from business right now.

Swatch of leaf pattern, 2 repeats.

Swatch while blocking - so smooth!

See how the leaves are falling left and right in a vertical sequence? S'lovely.

I'm on the final repeat of the cowl now and am even more impressed with the design. Delicate, intricate but straightforward to manage. As always tho', the knitting is faster than the camera work, so patience my pretties. Watch this space.

*(Shhhhh! Go back to sleep! It was the nightingale and not the lark!)
